In a year full of great movies, Focus was a very enjoyable caper that was criminally under-seen. Granted, the Will Smith-Margot Robbie love connection didnt sell and there may have been too many twists and turns for some, but the football betting sequence in particular proved to be a standout moment. What starts out as some innocent betting between Smith and Robbie quickly turns into something more serious when a nearby businessman joins into the fun. Theyre promptly invited to his private box to watch things and the stakes slowly turn up from there, going from playful to sinister as it looks like Smith is about to gamble away all of their earnings on a single, ill-advised double-or-nothing bet. But just as the film appears to be transforming into something much darker than anticipated, it turns out the whole thing was a con, leading up to a final, climactic, and nearly impossible bet that Will Smith is able to pull off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFFtBZapgGM It may have all been too ludicrous for some, but its truly an epic moment and you wouldnt think a string of betting could be so intense.
