6. Deus Ex Avalanche - War For The Planet Of The Apes

War for the Planet of the Apes concludes in suitably bombastic fashion, as Caesar (Andy Serkis) blows up a gigantic fuel tank, destroying the Colonel's (Woody Harrelson) Alpha-Omega facility and giving the victory to the invading northern army, or so it seems.

Hilariously, though, mere moments after the soldiers realise the war is won, Caesar's prior explosions cause an avalanche, which quickly annihilates the northern soldiers, who had no time to retreat while the apes managed to survive by climbing into the trees.

It's a rare example of deus ex machina actually working in a movie's favour, and it no doubt gives viewers a uniquely weird feeling, to be rooting for human death in massive numbers in the hope of ape survival. What a trip.
