7. The Stairwell Brawl - Atomic Blonde

A bats*** crazy action extravaganza that manages to out-John Wick John Wick, Atomic Blonde's already iconic stairwell/apartment fight is without question one of the year's barmiest set-pieces.

It begins with MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) trying to protect a Stasi defector, Spyglass (Eddie Marsan), who has been gravely wounded by turncoat spy David Percival (James McAvoy).

Broughton stashes Spyglass inside an apartment block, just as a number of assassins appear on the stairs, prompting her to spring into action and violently murder them all over a series of protracted, isolated fights.

Only Lorraine and blonde-haired German assassin (Daniel Bernhardt) remain, but even after she stabs him in the throat, he comes back for more as Lorraine and Spyglass attempt to escape in a car, finally ending him by running him over.

Sadly they're still not home free, as more killers show up in a car, ramming Lorraine's into the river, where Spyglass finally drowns and Lorraine just barely makes it out alive.

Digitally stitched together from over 40 single takes, it's a stunningly seamless sequence that proves just how effortlessly Theron can stand tall alongside men much larger than herself. Sequel now, please.
