After the Tom Cruise-led 2014 actioner under-performed at the box office, there weren't many expectations for a sequel.
However, home video sales were good enough that the much-discussed sequel was confirmed this year, with returning director Doug Liman signed up by April.
Liman has promised that the concept, which is at once a prequel and sequel, will "revolutionise" the idea of a movie sequel, suggesting that time travel will somehow be used to reshape the very concept.
The original movie was fantastic and certainly left enough open in terms of the alien mythology and fantastic Groundhog Day gimmick that a sequel was desired by many, and with both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt on-board, it's happening...eventually.
