2019 was a strong year for Netflix, and in particular its original content, with the likes of El Camino, The Irishman, and Marriage Story, among others, completely knocking it out of the park. If at least the latter two don't end up with a raft of awards nominations there will be something hugely wrong with the world.

The current king of the streaming world however, is now facing more competition than ever. Disney+ took the world by storm in late 2019, with the UK set to join the fun in March, Amazon Prime is growing stronger and stronger, and HBO and NBC will soon be entering the picture with Max and Peacock respectively. That means there's less older content available to them and the focus will inevitably shift even more to original programming and films.

Heading into 2020 then, under more pressure than ever to outperform the competition, Netflix has a tonne of original content set for release. From highly anticipated sequels, to new partnerships and even getting the former President of the United States involved, the platform is certainly not resting on its laurels. Though the details on some of these projects are somewhat scarce at present, there is more than enough reason to be excited for the year ahead.

The first of three Christmas movies on this list, Netflix appears to be doubling down on the holiday season after the recent success of the likes of Klaus and The Christmas Chronicles. It is the most wonderful time of the year, after all.

This musical has no shortage of talent attached, with David E. Talbert directing his third Christmas movie since 2016, John Legend in an executive producer role, and Forest Whitaker and Keegan Michael-Key starring. The story about Whitaker and his granddaughter experiencing a little Christmas magic is bound to be a fun, heart warming story, if not quite as exciting as the other two holiday movies on the Netflix slate.

Release Date: Christmas 2020
