11. Ebola Syndrome (1996)

Even within the most dependable bastion of bad taste known as the Category III genre of Hong Kong cinema, there are a few films which stand out as having a reputation for being truly offensive. Herman Yau's Ebola Syndrome is one of the most notorious examples of this.

Anthony Wong plays Kai San, the most despicable human being you could hope not to meet. Kai is a chef who kills his boss and his boss’ wife and flees from the law to South Africa. After a series of events he happens upon a tribe infected with Ebola. In one of the more tasteless scenes of the film the ever charming Kai rapes a dying African woman (before smashing her head in with a rock) and in turn becomes an Ebola carrier - spreading the disease to anyone who is exposed to his blood, saliva or semen.

In terms of gore, there are stabbings, decapitations, and some inventive uses of kitchen equipment, all of which are sure to satiate the hungriest of gore-hounds. The Ebola angle itself is also exploited to the fullest, with a great number of disgusting scenes, including autopsies and unfortunate victims in varying stages of infection - certainly not for the faint of heart.
