Like Sam Raimi’s second Evil Dead film, it’s the 1986 sequel Aliens that ranks over its forebear. Whether or not it’s deserving of its place on this list over Ridley Scott’s original Alien movie is debatable and though both films are undoubtedly brilliant, which is the better of the two is a bone of contention amongst sci-fi horror fans even today.

Directed by a then relatively green James Cameron, it’s a more action-packed affair than its brooding predecessor but did feature a very human story at its heart and successfully fleshed out the Alien universe’s two most important elements – Ellen Ripley and the Xenomorphs.

But like it or not the aggregator gods have spoken and Aliens is the better film, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes and Alien vs Aliens debates aside it’s definitely one of the most superior sequels a Hollywood franchise has ever produced.
