Since it's being billed as a sci-fi horror superhero movie, it's probably pretty fair to accept that Venom is going to be nothing like anything we've seen in the comic book movie stable before. Except maybe Spawn, but most people like to forget that exists entirely.

The horror element is the most interesting part of the film's classification, as Venom's symbiotic relationship with Eddie Brock has definitely always inspired links to body horror classics like The Fly and Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. Brock surrenders his body to the alien, and seeing that transformation for the first time is going to be exceptional, particularly as it will all be in Tom Hardy's hands.

Anything that improves on the way it was done in Spider-Man 3 has got to be a positive too.
