20 Most Iconic Villain Introductions In Movie History

1. Darth Vader - Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

It will come as no surprise that the decision to place Darth Vader in the number one spot of the most iconic villains in movie history took a matter of seconds to make - Vader is hands down the most iconic movie villain both in popular culture and film lore, his wheezing voice and towering presence as familiar a sight as the likes of Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley. His introductory scene in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope might not be shot with the same flair and invention as many of the others on this list (it was directed by George Lucas, never a director renowned for being visually daring) but its simplicity is a part of its iconography. A door bursts open scattering sparks and plumes of smoke and Darth Vader walks in wearing his black suit, cape waving behind him. It's a shame that Lucas had to go and spoil it all for so many people by depicting the origin of the character so poorly in the prequels - put those out of your mind, however, and Darth Vader is still one of the best villains in cinema history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MftSEu4vgg0 What other great villain entrances have been missed?
