20 Most Inspiring Movies Of All-Time

1. I't€™s A Wonderful Life

It's A Wonderful Life
RKO

Sometimes you get to €˜Number One€™ on these lists a there€™s no surprise. You always knew it would be that film/song/programme. Well, yes, maybe this one is obvious too but the fact that the longevity of this film has transcended the decade it was made, is still considered €˜the€™ festive classic and can make little children and grown adults cry and laugh shows that sometimes those number one places are well deserved. George Bailey is the ultimate everyman.

A put-upon young gentleman who saved his younger brother, Harry, from drowning as a child and, later, stopped his pharmacist boss from poisoning a young child with the wrong prescription. As his life develops he comes across Mr Potter, a selfish slum landlord, and sees Harry become an admired war hero. Although George finds love with Mary, his part in the Bailey Park affordable housing project teeters one Christmas when the $8000 loan needed to keep the company going falls into the hands of Potter, who then refuses George€™'s pleas for a loan.

So, after a car crash, there stands George, drunk on a bridge after crashing his car, ready to commit suicide as he€™d be €˜worth more dead than alive€™. Luckily for him, Clarence Odbody, Angel 2nd Class, is sent down to show George how bad life would be for the people of Bedford Falls if George had never lived. The film is at once heart-breaking and uplifting and James Stewart was never better as George.

The final moments, as the town rallies to George€™'s aid are as uplifting as cinema gets as Harry toasts George as €˜the richest man in town€™ and the friends and family come together at Christmas time. Of course, one need only end this list with Clarence€™s dedication to George, €˜Remember, no man is a failure who has friends€™.

Thank you Clarence, and thank you George.
