10. The Car Ambush - Children Of Men

Alfonso Cuaron's visionary sci-fi masterwork is perhaps best remembered for its technically astonishing car chase sequence, in which Theo's (Clive Owen) car, containing the first woman to get pregnant in 18 years, is attacked by an armed gang.

Theo's estranged wife Julian (Julianne Moore) is shot dead during the desperate escape, which is all captured in one impressively seamless, smooth single four-minute shot from within the car (albeit achieved with takes digitally stitched together).

Cuaron had to make use of a special camera rig to deliver the tight, claustrophobic angles seen in the final film, and the white-knuckle end result speaks for itself.
