20 Most Outrageously Violent Movies Since 2000

10. Battle Royale

Japanese filmmakers have proven themselves more than capable of delivering the goods when it comes to outrageously violent movies, and Kinji Fukasaku kicked off the new millennium in style with the release of Battle Royale, his adaptation of the 1999 book of the same name. Revolving around an annual event in which the government forces a group of high school kids onto an island and gives them random weapons to kill each other with, Battle Royale remains as transgressive and daring today as it did fifteen years ago. The strange interplay of John Woo-style violence with kids is perhaps one of the most bizarre concepts to have made it to the screen and makes Hollywood's The Hunger Games adaptations look like a walk in the park in comparison.
