20 Most Rewatchable Sci-Fi Movies Of The 21st Century

7. The World’s End

The World's End
Universal Pictures

The first explicitly sci fi flick from the eclectic stable of Marvel exile/ Scott Pilgrim director Edgar Wright, the first half of this British comedy unspools like a hyperactive remix of The Big Chill as a set of school friends reunite in their small hometown to recreate a legendary but ill-fated pub crawl from their youth.

It continues in this vein until the robot alien invaders are revealed, so it’s no surprise that you’ll want to re-watch this one to find the clues which subtly allude to the midway genre switch now that you know the score. But this warm, bittersweet comedy sci fi earns a re-watch with more than a mere plot twist, as the easy chemistry between the Cornetto trilogy stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost anchors an effective, surprisingly tender exploration of male friendship, responsibility, and aging.

And you know, robot alien invaders.
