20 Most Ridiculous Movie Twists Of All Time

10. Soylent Green

green-soylentThe Plot: Richard Fleischer's much referenced Sci-Fi classic is set in a dystopian future suffering from overpopulation, poverty and depleting resources. Charlton Heston's New York City cop investigates the murder of a wealthy businessman who was a director for a huge conglomerate called The Soylent Corporation just as their latest product hits the market...Soylent Green, a high energy plankton that could help solve world hunger. The Twist: Soylent Green is people. A ridiculously successful twist which, due to its success, has been parodied and referenced in a thousand memes and TV shows which has definitely lessened it's impact (because everyone knows it) but for that very reason it's also one of the best, ridiculous and most memorable and deserving of it's place on this list.

9. Se7en

seven2The Plot: Two mismatched cops track down a serial killer, so far so generic, but the killer is John Doe (Kevin Spacey) intent on murdering people to the tune of the seven deadly sins, the two cops are world weary Detectives Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and Mills (Brad Pitt) and the director is David Fincher who delivers a knockout ending to leave audiences more depressed on leaving the cinema than they were when their first pet died. The Twist: John Doe leads the detectives to the middle of nowhere on the promise of finding the final two dead bodies but instead we get Gwyneth Paltrow's decapitated head in a box and our jaws on the floor. Completely amazing, completely shocking and completely ridiculous, this twist is one the best.

8. The Sixth Sense

The Plot: A child psychologist (Bruce Willis) helps a troubled child who clams to be able to see and communicate with the dead in M.Knight Shyamalan's debut feature. The Twist: Bruce Willis is actually a ghost and has been dead the entire time...and he didn't even know it (I suppose he never stopped and thought to himself how come I've not eaten or slept for a few weeks...) This sting in the tail may have inspired its fair share of nonsensical twists in other films but it also helped take an unknown director and a lead actor in need of a hit and turned them into a smash hit with critics (best film Oscar nomination) and audiences alike (to the tune of over $700 million).
