20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2017
17. Paddington 2
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%
It's worth noting that the first Paddington movie was one of 2014's most surprising critical hits, scoring a shocking 98% on the Tomatometer, after a series of fairly uninspired trailers suggested otherwise.
Though most were surely predicting a solid sequel, once again the marketing didn't do the film many favours, suggesting that Paddington 2 would probably score anywhere from 60-80%, serving up a charming but warmed-over retread of what worked the first time.
Instead, Paddington 2 turned out to be a significant improvement over its predecessor, benefiting from stronger visuals, a funnier script, and an unforgettable, BAFTA-nominated performance from Hugh Grant as the film's villain.
That it's still rocking 100%, with an 8.7/10 average score and more than 70 reviews no less, is nothing short of stunning. Not even the year's most buzzed-about awards hopefuls managed that.
