The Song: Hip To Be Square - Huey Lewis and The News (1986)
The Scene: Psychopathic yuppie Patrick Bateman plans on killing his Wall Street rival Paul Allen (for having a better business card) but, before he goes through with it, he gives him a critique of the music of one of his favourite bands, Huey Lewis and The News.
Why It's Great: The thing that really makes the scene great is Bale's completely over-the-top performance and line delivery but the fact that he's seriously debating the merits of the one hit wonder band add to the bizarre nature of proceedings.
A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself!
