20 Movie Sequels Everyone Knew Were A Huge Mistake (But Still Got Made)

10. Jaws: The Revenge

What can you even say about Jaws: The Revenge? It's a film about a shark with a personal vendetta against the Brody family, and which was produced in less than nine months from start to finish.

Nothing about this suggested that Universal gave much of a damn about it beyond the financial incentive to make another Jaws, and so it's unlikely any of the cast or crew were expecting a quality sequel.

Basically it's thunderously clear that everyone was in it for the big, fat paycheck - and, frankly, why the hell not?

Yet this film's grandest legacy is perhaps birthing Michael Caine's immortal, oft-cited "I did it for the paycheck" admission - "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific!"

In something of a tender mercy, though, the film's critical and commercial failure effectively killed the Jaws franchise off.
