Notable for being Ali MacGraw's first major role, the literary adaptation follows the tried-and-tested route of two people from different backgrounds overcoming familial and social obstacles in order to be together. As you can no doubt decipher from the tagline, premarital sex is also one of the movie's underlying themes, although that doesn't excuse the blatant mis-truth printed on the poster. This tagline reminds me of Charlie Sheen's line from Hot Shots! Part Deux; 'he swore a vow of celibacy, just like his father and his father before him'. Seemingly ignoring every grandparent in the world, the poster for this Golden Globe nominated romantic comedy is basically telling a lie, as well as ignoring basic human biology.
12. Ender's Game (2013)
Let me get this straight; a movie called Ender's Game markets itself with the tagline 'This Is Not A Game'? I wonder how long it took the marketing team to come up with that particular gem. If the source novel was called Ender's Pastime, or Ender's Hobby then maybe it would make sense. Instead, they're just telling anyone that reads the poster to completely ignore the title. Unfortunately, most people tended to avoid the whole movie and the $110m adaptation only earned $125.5m at the worldwide box office.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
