20 Film & TV Remakes You Didn't Know Were Coming
5. Threads
While it's true that many reboots are created with a vision of bringing something from the past back into relevancy, this entry covers something slightly different. The subject covered in Threads, the English TV movie from 1984, was just as relevant when it released as it is in the modern day.
The film took an unflinching and brutal, yet realistic look, without exaggeration or pandering, at the effects of a nuclear war. It is the kind of thing one doesn't forget, with images that simply cannot be unseen.
Of course, the idea of a nuclear fallout is something that doesn't exactly seem outside the realms of possibility in the current climate, and so revisiting Threads is an understandable move to make. The fact that it is being brought to life by the same people who created Adolescence, one of the most talked about shows of the last few years, suggests that this is going to be good, and people are going to take notice.
Something that appears to be different right away is that a synopsis has told of how the new Threads will explore hope in trying times, something that the original director, Mick Jackson, has taken exception to. Threads was never about hope and there was never a light at the end of the tunnel, there simply were no winners. It will be extremely interesting to see exactly how this is handled.
