20 Film & TV Remakes You Didn't Know Were Coming
6. The Magnificent Seven
Perhaps reboots wouldn't be looked at with such a stigma if studios took films that never quite lived up to their potential, or bad films that could have been good, and gave them another chance. That, by and large however, isn't what happens.
Reboots are genuinely plays on nostalgia, and standing on the shoulders of what came before, which is why The Magnificent Seven will be getting yet another iteration. Widely considered one of the greatest westerns of all time, there was nothing more to bring to this particular table.
Classics like these should be left alone, and while you'd be forgiven for thinking that lesson may have been learned after the largely forgettable 2016 remake, that seemingly won't be the case. What could possibly happen another decade later to make another go at The Magnificent Seven worth doing?
While both the 1960 version and the 2016 version were built on ensemble casts, the only casting news so far is of Matt Dillon portraying Chris Adams, the character previously played by Yul Brynner almost 70 years ago. Unfortunately, it feels as though regardless of the cast for this one, the project will be doomed to fail.
