20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
3. Shooter McGavin - Happy Gilmore
In the world of sport, as much as there are sore losers, there can also be sore winners. The epitome of both of these was Shooter McGavin. Christopher McDonald's character made himself Happy Gilmore's (Adam Sandler) rival after having to watch others win the championship every year, and feeling he now deserved it.
Like many on this list, there was a cockiness and an arrogance about Shooter, though in this case, he did have a huge amount of talent. He was a very good golfer, but with this ability came his hatred of Happy, because he was better.
The story of Happy vs. Shooter was something of a David vs. Goliath, and the latter simply couldn't stand that he was actually being given a challenge by someone so unlike the typical golfer. He had waited forever to get a gold jacket, and now his biggest threat was someone he didn't believe even deserved to be in the sport at all.
The worst thing the character did, outside of hiring Donald (Joe Flaherty), who ultimately tried to kill his opponent, was to drag Happy's innocent Grandma into things. Shooter bought her house at an auction and tried to blackmail Happy with it, threatening her homelessness if he didn't drop out and leave Shooter all but unopposed in his hunt for his golden jacket.
