Release date: Winter What's it about? No real introduction needed here - this is one of Shakespeare's most well known plays and has been filmed countless times before. This time around it's Michael Fassbender taking on the role of the eponymous general who goes on to become king, with Marion Cotillard (who wowed audiences in 2014 with her exceptional performance in Two Days, One Night) playing the manipulative Lady Macbeth. What makes it award-worthy? Director Justin Kurzel might seem like an unusual choice after directing the serial killer thriller Snowtown but he's nothing if not competent, while Fassbender and Cotillard both have the acting chops to live up to the great bard's standards. A winter release makes Oscar consideration highly likely.
