20 Movies That Are Flawed Masterpieces

15. Babe: Pig In The City (1998)

Universal Pictures

There's no denying the inherent weirdness of Babe: Pig in the City, which plays - for the most part - like a nightmare instead and not as a sequel to a beloved children's film. But that's all part of its downright bonkers appeal. No, it is not perfect and there are sections that do not work entirely, but through its attempts to be more than just a sequel to a film about a cute pig - in its attempt to brush shoulders with the mad and the surreal - Babe: Pig in the City transcends its own origins; it's an utterly crazed, inconsistent masterpiece.

George Miller, director of the Mad Max movies (the most recent of which, Fury Road, has just been hailed a modern action classic), took the reins for this follow-up to Babe (he penned the first instalment), and uses the film as a vehicle to do whatever the hell he likes. It's scary, funny and unexplainable in equal measure. As a result, Babe: Pig in the City stands out as one of the most curiously brilliant - and nutty - kids' films ever made.
