7. The Sadness

Taiwanese horror The Sadness is a film that needs to come with basically every sort of trigger warning imaginable, so widespread are the horrific sights it has to show you.

An uncommonly savage take on the zombie genre, The Sadness involves a viral pandemic that turns the afflicted into raging, homicidal maniacs who don't merely stop at murder.

This is a film that explores the darkest parts of the human soul in haunting, deeply queasy detail, enough that the scenes involving sexual assault will unavoidably be too much for some viewers.

If you can stomach it, though, this is a totally unique vision for a well-trod genre and one that commits extremely hard to the overpowering bleakness of its vision.
