20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023
2. She Said
One of the few "serious" Oscar contenders to not yet be screened is Maria Schrader's drama She Said, which chronicles the efforts of journalists Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) to break the news of the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal.
Such timely, hot button subject matter makes She Said an immediately buzzy awards prospect, and with two-time Oscar nominee Mulligan leading a crackerjack ensemble cast - including not only Kazan but also Patricia Clarkson and Samantha Morton - the potential for dramatic fireworks speaks for itself.
Despite some skepticism about this being "too soon" for a Weinstein movie, the Academy sure loves a deep-dish investigative drama, and so it's entirely possible that She Said pulls ahead later in Oscar season as this year's Spotlight.
For Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Actress (Mulligan), Film Editing, and Musical Score, it's got major potential to play the Oscar spoiler. We'll have to wait and see.
