20 Music Videos Directed By Hollywood's Finest Filmmakers

18. Gus Van Sant: Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Under The Bridge"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE Unquestionably the most prominent figure in the 'New Queer Cinema' movement, American maestro Gus Van Sant is responsible for some of the most assured examples in postmodern filmmaking; titles including Drugstore Cowboy (1989), Good Will Hunting (1997) and Elephant (2003) spring to mind. As well as a wealth of towering cinematic achievements, Van Sant also managed a dense career in music photography. Shooting videos for David Bowie, Tracy Chapman and Elton John to name but a few, his visual flair and assured framing made him a popular choice to render the works of the soulful and experimental. Undoubtedly his most famous work belongs to the Red Hot Chili Pepper's iconic anthem "Under the Bridge" which still feels as authentic and poignant as it did back in 1991.
