The Movie: The crew of a large fishing trawler labour through the night to bring in their catch, battling against the tumultuous sea and the elements. Set upon the same ocean where Herman Melville's Moby Dick took place, Leviathan is a documentary stripped of narrative, where the action speaks for itself. What Makes It Original: Utilising a range of cameras positioned in every conceivable place, Leviathan is perhaps one of the most immersive documentaries ever filmed, more akin to a sensory ride in which the viewer is plunged into the lives of the crew on board the ship. While it feels like a draining experience at times, perseverance pays off, rewarding the viewer with some truly exceptional moments, as the cameras swoop over the ship flying with gulls or plunge into the water following the immense chains which hoist in the nets.
