20 Perfect Scenes In God-Awful Horror Movies

9. BioEverton - Virus

Virus Film
Universal Pictures

Virus, which stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland, centres around a salvage crew who find themselves attacked by mechanical aliens.

Over the years, Curtis has starred in her fair share of duds. So, when the scream queen herself says Virus is terrible, it goes without saying this sci-fi flop is in its own league of god-awfulness.

And yet, the special effects are second to none. Though the biomechanical beasts look fantastic, the SFX crew took things to another level during the climax. After Sutherland's character, Captain Everton, allies with the extraterrestrials, he's transformed into a cyborg.

BioEverton's grand entrance is masterful, drenched in darkness at first, save for a red laser sight on his head. As the grinding of gears can be heard from Everton's body, the crew have a fair idea what fate has befallen their captain, even before they see him.

A bolt of lighting illuminates the room, revealing BioEverton, or at least what's left of him. Not only is his skin covered in asymmetrical stitches, infected wounds, and necrotic flesh, the majority of his body has been replaced with wires and machinery.

For some reason, hearing Sutherland's melodious timber coming out of such revolting creature makes this reveal even more unnerving.
