20 Perfect Shots From Oscar Winning Movies
16. Schindler's List - The Girl In Red
Who can forget the girl in the red coat from Steven Spielberg's masterful depiction of the Holocaust? As the Nazis decimate the Krakow ghetto, Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) is transfixed by the young girl walking through the streets, her red coat appearing in colour while everything around her remains monochrome.
As if seeing a young, innocent child become a war atrocity isn't devastating enough, Spielberg hammers the point home by subtly highlighting her coat. He doesn't go over-the-top with the colour grading and settles on a washed-out red that still unmistakably stands out.
It's also an iconic enough image that the movie's most famous poster art contains the girl's hand and the red cuff of her coat.
