10. The Parallax View
One of the more conspiracy based thrillers mentioned in the introduction, Alan J. Pakula's (a master of the form) The Parallax View is a paranoid treat that marks the middle of his trio of films in that vein (it succeeds Klute and precedes All The Presidents Men, both of which could realistically appear on this list.) Starring a wild-haired Warren Beatty as a journalist who gets in over his head whilst investigating a senator's assassination, The Parallax View twists and turns to the point where Beatty's character, Joseph Frady, is tracked by a shady multinational corporation who he believes are trying to kill him. A filmmaker's favourite, The Parallax View is a high point in the 70s cinema canon, capturing America's post-Watergate paranoia and growing distrust towards the government. For the same kind of reasons - not to mention the fact that said multinational corp. controls all of the world's media headlines - the film feels prescient today.
