Contrary to Disneys low expectations prior to release, The Lion King has been capturing the hearts of children everywhere from the very beginning. Its not difficult to see why. I Just Cant Wait To Be King sucks the target audience in early with its bright colors and catchy tune, and theres always a vicarious glee in watching Simba and Nala escape their stuffy babysitter. The film is packed with enough action to please the older kids without necessarily inducing nightmares for the younger. Mufasas death is awful, but theres a happy ending. Timon and Pumbaa even deliver some lower-brow laughs. Also, for kids still icky on boy/girl interactions that dont involve siblings and/or cooties, theres no kissing in the animal kingdom, and even the youngsters most squeamish about love stories might not be able to complain about the sudden appearance of a cub at the end.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
