What can you say about Joss Whedon that hasnt already been said? From humble beginnings as a regular writer on Roseanne, Whedon has managed to slowly, purposefully, rise the ranks of the Hollywood elite to the point that hes at in his career today - the writer and director of one of the most lucrative films ever produced, The Avengers. Sure, you can attribute some of that success elsewhere; to the genius creation of the Marvel Movie Universe made possible by the stand alone films produced in the lead up; to the ready-made audience of millions whod been waiting for this forever; to the leagues of clever marketing executives that built hype to a fever-pitch. But without that payoff, without that awesome movie at the centre of it all, it would have been for nothing. The success of The Avengers franchise ultimately hinged on the movie that Whedon had promised to produce and jesus, did he do good. His stories and concepts are usually clever; his dialogue fresh and pacey, but deep and meaningful when the time is right and perhaps most importantly, hes apt at toeing that precarious line between comedy and drama. Whedon started out as a writer on the long running sitcom Roseanne, and although hes since become known for many other things directing, producing and even composing music when the mood takes him hes most in his element when hes penning the script.
