20 Recent Casting Choices NOBODY Expected
2. Margot Robbie & Jacob Elordi - Wuthering Heights
The new adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights from Saltburn director Emerald Fennell stoked controversy the moment its surprising lead actors were announced.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are playing the central roles of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, and where to even begin with this?
First off, Catherine is in her late teens at the end of the novel, so having a mid-thirties Robbie play the part is certainly a bold choice. As for Heathcliff? He's said to be around 40 in the novel, but played by a 27-year-old Elordi here.
Either way, the dual casting is sure to be divisive with fans of the source novel.
But it's worth bearing in mind that the recent trailer for the film contains the title within quotation marks, seeming to suggest that this will be Fennell's very distinct and not particularly reverent take on the story.
