17. The Old Guard 2

Fountain of Youth
Netflix

The Old Guard 2 was a big ol' pile of "meh" from start to finish - a limp, snoozy sequel to an original film that never really had the makings of a franchise anyway.

At least the finale seemed to kick into high gear, as protagonist Andy (Charlize Theron) battled the villainous Discord (Uma Thurman) in an apparent bladed duel to the death.

Yet as fun as it is to see Uma Thurman swinging a sword around again Kill Bill-style, it all wraps up - or rather, doesn't - with one hell of an anti-climax.

Discord incapacitates Andy and hops on her waiting chopper, fleeing with Andy's captured comrades, after which Andy reconvenes with teammate Quỳnh (Veronica Ngô) and they vow to hunt Discord down... next time.

Perhaps with better execution this ending would've worked as a dark, Empire Strikes Back-esque middle-chapter cliffhanger, but because there's so little reason to care about anything happening here, it just feels like the filmmakers had no idea how to end it.

Considering The Old Guard 3 still hasn't been confirmed by Netflix many months after the second film's release, it's quite possible this admittedly stale ending is left hanging forever more.
