20 Rotten Tomatoes Predictions For 2022's Biggest Movies

Expect rave reviews for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Though box office will always be the most important bottom line figure for movie studios, there's no denying the importance of critical reception, especially in an era where audience attendance is often dictated by Rotten Tomatoes' single aggregated Tomatometer score.

For better or worse, a movie's Rotten Tomatoes score can have a major impact on its commercial viability - of course, some films are simply critic-proof, but a bad or mediocre score can also turn the on-the-fence masses away in droves.

And while we may often think we can see a dud coming a mile off due to the cast and crew involved, or from an underwhelming marketing campaign, we've all been caught majorly off-guard every now and then.

Take Eternals' wildly mixed reviews late last year - who ever saw that coming?

And so we look forward to the next 12 months of movies, and factoring in everything we know about these 20 films so far, make some educated guesses about how they'll be received by critics.

Of course it's entirely possible these predictions are wildly off-base, but accepting the people involved and ingesting what we've seen in trailers, here's where your reasonable expectations should probably be set...

20. Uncharted (53%)

It'd be foolish to have stratospheric expectations for any movie based on a video game given their track record, and that's doubly true in the case of the totally mediocre-looking Uncharted.

Nothing we've seen in the trailers suggests this is anything more than a generic, forgettable action-adventure flick bearing a vague resemblance to its inspiration, crafted less as a faithful adaptation than a star vehicle for Tom Holland.

Director Ruben Fleischer is a total wild card - though both of his Zombieland movies received critical acclaim, his three other films (30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad, and Venom) have been all over the map critically.

And while two of the three screenwriters co-wrote the original Iron Man, they've also got alarming credits like Punisher: War Zone, Transformers: The Last Knight, and Men in Black: International to their names.

Holland's sheer likeability and some amusingly daft action sequences will surely prevent this from getting panned - it's far more likely to divide critics between those who find it to be watchable froth and those who consider it too bland to recommend. 53% it is.
