20 Most Satisfying Movie Moments

1. Escape From Shawshank - The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Any number of wholly satisfying movie moments could have found themselves in first place, of course, but is there another moment quite so perfect - and infused with such high levels of emotional weight - as the one which sees Andy Dufrense, our wrongly convicted prisoner and the man we sympathise with for the entire running time of the feature, escape from the clutches of Shawshank Prison after all those years? As we watch Andy clamber through a long, hand-carved passageway, through the world's most disgusting pipe, and out into the rain, it's impossible not to feel such a sense of awe, relief and achievement. Made all the more satisfying via Morgan Freeman's narration and Thomas Newman's triumphant score, this is probably the point at which most Shawshank fans decided that it was their favourite movie ever. It's hard to argue with that. Like this list? Let us know in the comments section below.
