20 Scariest Films Of All Time

7. Dawn Of The Dead (1978)

What would a scary list be without at least one zombie entry? Dawn of the Dead was the second 'Living Dead' movie in zombie-loving George A. Romero's series and is by far his finest. In case you somehow weren't aware by now €“ a zombie is a re-animated dead person who craves to feast on human flesh. While that's scary enough, Romero manages to make it even more terrifying by employing the special effects make up skills of Tom Savine €“ through his work the zombies really did come to life... Some of the entries on this list try to terrify their audiences with underhand suggestion, others with subtly unsettling characters €“ Dawn of the Dead, on the other hand, abruptly sets about to terrify its audience with non-stop exposure to sheer, in-your-face horrors which will have you suffering recurring dreams about being eaten alive for many weeks to come. Night of the Living Dead may have been the film which changed the face of horror as we knew it, but Dawn of the Dead was so unashamedly action-packed, wild and €“ most of all €“ scary that it has to be the George A. Romero to get a spot on this list. From its tagline 'when there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth' to its final frames, this film is watch-from-behind-the-couch scary.
