20 Sci-Fi Movies EVERY Film Fan Should Have Seen

You might notice something of a trend on this list in regards to how some of the greatest sci-fi horrors weren't all that well-received when they were first released. Yes, it seems that some of the world just wasn't ready for the advancements that had begun to make their presence felt in Hollywood and reacted with contempt. If only those critics could have known how culturally significant those films would go on to become, right?

However, while the likes of Predator and Invasion of the Body Snatchers were still highly successful films in their own right, The Thing wasn't quite as lucky as it ultimately failed at the box office. Ironic given that it has arguably gone on to become the most adored of the three.

Utterly terrifying in every way, John Carpenter's classic sci-fi is one of the most visceral horror movies you'll ever watch in your lifetime, and while that certainly makes it an acquired taste more than anything, it's hard to deny that the innovate use of practical effects was absolutely spectacular.

A think-outside-the-box production that deserved far more recognition when it was released, it's only fitting that it's now considered one of the all-time greats.
