20 Terrible Oscar Nominations From The Past Ten Years - Corrected
4. The 2019 Best Editing Field
Is this the single worst category of the decade? Actually... it might just be that.
Sure, there have been many terrible category line-ups in the last ten years, but usually there's at least one film that deserves to be there. In this case, all five of the nominated films - The Favourite, Black Klansman, Green Book, Vice and the eventual winner Bohemian Rhapsody - did very little memorable with their editing and shouldn't have been anywhere near this award.
In particular, Bohemian Rhapsody's nomination and subsequent win for its lackluster, overdone editing was terrible.
Corrected:
Blockbusters, when executed well, frequently display some of the most impressive editing in the industry, so they are usually the ones who deserve the most recognition in this category but they're always getting snubbed.
Both Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had superbly put-together action scenes and narrative strands, while Mission - Impossible: Fallout's beautifully edited action sequences also deserved some recognition here.
As for the other two slots, those should've gone to American Animals and Widows. American Animals did an extraordinary job of splicing together fiction-filmmaking and documentary footage and Widows seamlessly put its many plot-threads and characters together into a two-hour film.
