20 Terrible Oscar Nominations From The Past Ten Years - Corrected
2. The 2019 Best Picture Field
This was yet another underwhelming Best Picture line-up and only three of the eight nominees definitely deserved their nominations: Roma, Black Klansman and A Star is Born.
Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody are both underwhelming films that weren't among the top 50 of 2018; Green Book is a lot better than those two but it had some pretty clumsy writing and therefore it being nominated and then winning was completely wrong.
The Favourite is very well-done, but it's not very enjoyable and wasn't one of the year's best and although Black Panther was excellent, it was only the fourth-best superhero film of 2018.
As well as this, Vice's nominations for Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress beggared belief.
Corrected:
Firstly, with Vice's nominations, Lynne Ramsay's stunning directing of You were Never Really Here was far more deserving of recognition and Daniel Kaluuya's and Elizabeth Debicki's brilliant supporting performances in Widows were miles better than Sam Rockwell and Amy Adams' entirely forgettable performances in Vice.
In terms of what the true best films of the year were, Avengers: Infinity War, 2018's actual best superhero film, should've replaced Black Panther, while Leave No Trace, First Reformed, Paddington 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were all amazing and far more deserving than most of the actual nominees.
Additionally, The Rider and You were Never Really Here would've been great picks for the ninth and tenth spots that should've been there.
