20 Things That Almost Completely Changed Harry Potter Movies

4. Dumbledore Was Almost Straight

A lot has been said about the wicked undertones of Dumbledore's relationship with Harry, but all perverse rumours aside, there was to be a confirmation of the headmaster's sexuality in the film adaptation of The Order Of The Phoenix. Quite why it mattered is a different question, but the script initially featured a line that established that he was straight, but Rowling nixed the line, writing "he's gay" on the script. Later, after the books were all published a fan asked Rowling if Dumbledore had ever been in love, at which point she confirmed that he was gay and that she'd always seen Gellert Grindelwald as the lost love of his life - which explained why he was initially blinded by his friend's malevolence. The film adaptations of course also chose to leave out the questionable suggestion that Aberforth Dumbledore might have had a genuine perversion. Thanks to a tongue-in-cheek off-hand reference in the book series, there was a distinct, worrying suggestion that he had a thing for goats.
