20 Things You Didn’t Know About Dune
11. The SyFy Adaption Was One Of James McAvoy’s First Leading Roles
An oft-forgotten adaptation of Dune was the 2000 SyFy miniseries. Whilst the overall quality of SyFy productions is seen as a bit of a joke, their version of the classic novel was generally well-received; especially among fans who were able to look past the ropey set design, bad CGI and… interesting wardrobe choices to appreciate it for the thorough, faithful translation that it was.
SyFy went on to produce a sequel miniseries covering the second and third novels with Susan Sarandon and none other than future BAFTA winner James McAvoy in one of his earliest leading roles.
Here he played Leto Atreides the 2nd, Paul’s son, and brought a lot of plausible grit to the uneven production. Surely a hint of the burgeoning talent he would go on to show the world.
