20 Things You Didn’t Know About For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Sheena Easton holds the distinction of being the only artist to perform a Bond theme and to feature in the titles sequence of a Bond film.

This was not due to the lyrics of her song, but because titles designer, Maurice Binder was struck by her beauty and told Cubby Broccoli that he had to capture her gorgeous good looks in the titles.

The drawback was that Binder was shooting the titles with a soft-light focus on a very high-resolution film stock, which meant that even the slightest movement from the Scottish singer would throw her features out of sync, leading to a very blurry final image onscreen.

To avoid this, Binder resorted to using a metal clamp to keep Sheena Easton from moving her head too much. The tongs of the uncomfortable device were concealed in her hair whilst its central support ran down her back. The singer later revealed that it was the most painful thing that she had ever worn, but agreed that it got the job done!

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
