Quite poetically, the year after Moneyball was released, the A's repeated their success by winning the AL West, once again under Billy Beane.

Despite the Texas Rangers being the odds-on favourites to emerge victorious, the A's pulled ahead by winning the last game of the season, beating the Rangers by just a single victory.

And as if yet again proving the point of the movie, Beane pulled this momentous feat off with what was at the time the second-lowest payroll in baseball, at just $59.5 million.

Aptly, both fans and the press alike dubbed the season "Moneyball 2."
