Legendary screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) was brought on-board to rewrite Moneyball's script, though Sorkin, who was months away from winning a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for his work on The Social Network, only agreed to update the existing script on one condition.

Sorkin insisted that Steven Zaillian, who wrote the previous draft, would still receive a screenwriting credit for his work on the film, because Sorkin loved his attempt and didn't feel that he could do much to improve it.

As a result, when the film received a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination, both Sorkin and Zaillian, along with original screenwriter Stan Chervin, were all nominated for their work on the script (though ultimately lost to The Descendants).
