20 Things You Didn’t Know About Quantum Of Solace (2008)

13. “...So He Just Smiled At Me, Then Set The House On Fire.”

Quantum Of Solace
MGM/Columbia Pictures

When Camille was young, General Medrano (Joaquín Cosio) assassinated her father, Ernesto Montes - his political rival - and raped, tortured, and killed Montes’s Russian dancer wife and other daughter, then set the family home on fire. Camille was still trapped inside, but managed to escape, even though her back was horribly scarred by the flames in the process.

The scarring was Olga Kurylenko’s idea as she had recently undergone tattoo laser-removal surgery on her back, which left a noticeable scar.

The film’s make-up designer, Paul Engelen and Naomi Donne, who was responsible for the make-up and hair for the film’s Bond Girls, enhanced the existing scar to make it look as though it could have resulted from a historic burn.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
