Peter Porteous, who had portrayed Lenkin, the nervous curator of the Kremlin Art Repository in Octopussy (1983), appeared as the supervisor of the Bratislavian gasworks where James Bond and “our man here”, Rosika Miklos (Julie T. Wallace) aid General Koskov’s defection through Austria. Porteous’s wife, Emma Porteous was the costume designer on Octopussy, A View to a Kill (1985), and The Living Daylights.

Vienna represented both itself and Bratislava during filming, whilst the flight of the Royal Air Force Hawker Siddeley Harrier T4A jet that transports Koskov to Great Britain was filmed at RAF Wittering near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

A backdrop representing the rooftop of the gasometer in Vienna was constructed at the base, whilst the Harrier took off vertically from behind a matte painting of the gasometer to make it appear that it was taking off from the roof.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
