It’s no secret that Chazelle’s 2013 short essentially served as a proof of concept to get a bigger budget meant to realize what would eventually become the 2014 feature. The process to get to this point, however, is stunning in its brevity.

The film itself was shot in a breezy 19 days, with actors being on set up to a grueling 14 hours a day. After shooting came to a close, Chazelle and editor Tom Cross cut the film in a few weeks so as to make the 2014 Sundance Film Festival deadline.

All in all, the entire process took 10 weeks from the first day of filming to the final edit. While speedy filming schedules are sometimes questionable, this one paid off handsomely at the end of the day.
