This year's slate of Oscar nominees was by far the most diverse and inclusive ever, hitting numerous milestones for representation.

Perhaps the most important of all - and yet one of the least-discussed - was that Judas and The Black Messiah became the first Best Picture nominee in the Oscars' 93-year history to have solely Black producers.

Ryan Coogler, Charles King, and the film's director Shaka King were all nominated for producing the biopic of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), which above all else speaks to how singularly the film has been conceived and voiced by Black artists, as it should be.

Shaka King nevertheless urged that the distinction ultimately only underlines the lack of opportunities afforded to Black producers in Hollywood:

"Why did it take 93 years for there to be three Black producers nominated for an Academy Award? Is it because there weren't three Black people willing to produce movies? Probably not. Was it because we didn't have the access to the kind of capital to make a big, sweeping studio feature? Maybe a little bit. Was it because we made that stuff and they didn't recognise it? Maybe a little bit. But none of it feels good. So it's bittersweet
