2. The Entire Singing In Rain Moment Was Improvised

During rehearsals for the movie, Stanley Kubrick was concerned that the now famously brutal scene where the gang attacks the writer and his wife wasn't quite working. It lacked delerium, it lacked an edge, so he asked McDowell to "do something outrageous". His response was to dance around and belt out Singin' In The Rain.

When asked why, he offered the following answer; "Because that song is Hollywood's gift to the world of euphoria. And that's what the character is feeling at the time."
